Bands of fine ripple broken by quiet, plain stretches across a face of about 17/32": a lively skip pattern in the Dutch Golden Age tradition, knife-scraped in solid hardwood.

Ripple molding #187-10 is about 17/32" wide and nearly 5/8" high. Choose maple, cherry, or walnut below. Each stick is 5 feet long.

The profile

The ripple runs through the whole profile in bands, with plain stretches between them; within each band the crests are about 1/8" apart and about 1/32" deep. The pauses give the molding a measured, staccato rhythm that sets it apart from a steady ripple. It runs in an organic cadence: a steady rhythm, each wave a little different in length and depth, like hand-made period frames.

Ways to use it

  • As a slim sight-edge molding or liner inside a wider Dutch-style frame
  • As the whole frame for small paintings, prints, miniatures, and photographs
  • On boxes, small mirrors, and panels that call for an antique look
